God's Original Creation

Let’s start at the very beginning.

In Genesis 1, God created the heavens and the earth, and in Genesis 2, God decided to make this creature called mankind in His own image.

Q: Why did God create humanity?

Scripture says that all things were created for Jesus and for God’s glory, so that includes mankind.

Colossians 1:15-16
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

But what is so special about mankind?

Why were we created in the image and likeness of God?

Throughout the entire bible, it’s clear that God always intended to have a personal relationship with us. God’s intention for us from the start was to have communion with Him.

The first humans, Adam and Eve, had this relationship and communion with God. The walked and talked with God in the garden. They had this kind of access to God because they had not yet sinned.

And so they were blameless and pure. In fact they were created innocent and they had no consciousness of sin.

I believe this word “innocent” describes them really well, because they had this child-like innocence where they had no knowledge of sin because they had no exposure to it, and so they couldn’t even comprehend it.

Genesis 2:25
And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
  • They had no shame whatsoever because there was nothing to be ashamed about.
  • They were perfectly innocent, created to be child-like, without knowledge of evil.
  • Their eyes were closed to such things, they couldn’t comprehend it.

This is God’s original creation and intention for humanity.
